Glycyrrhiza glabra description:
Glycyrrhiza glabra is one of the main flavonoids in Glycyrrhiza glabra. It exhibits strong anti-free radical oxidation in the cytochrome P450/NADPH oxidation system, and can significantly inhibit free radicals generated during metabolism in the body to protect against oxidation-sensitive biomacromolecules (low-density lipoprotein LDL, DNA) and cell walls are damaged by free radical oxidation. Thereby, it is possible to prevent certain pathological changes related to free radical oxidation, such as atherosclerosis, cell senescence and the like. In addition, licorice has a certain role in lowering blood fat and lowering blood pressure.
Glycyrrhiza glabra Functions:
Tyrosinase
Human tyrosinase is an essential enzyme that produces melanin regularly, changing the skin or eyes from brown to black. We know that skin exposure to ultraviolet light can cause some reactions (such as inflammation). Because the phospholipid membrane of skin tissue is destroyed by ultraviolet light-induced reactive oxygen species, this histological change appears as erythema and pigmentation. Reactive oxygen is a substance that causes skin pigmentation, so inhibition of its formation inhibits melanin production.
Anti-inflammatory effect
The anti-inflammatory activity of Radix Glycyrrhizae was verified by experiments. The guinea pig was exposed to ultraviolet light to cause pigmentation, and then smeared with 0.5% light licorice solution. It was found that light licorice reduced skin inflammation caused by ultraviolet stimuli. A value is used to indicate erythema on the skin. The degree of inflammation reduction can be calculated by recording the a value (color meter reading) before, after, and after using the light-grassing. The researchers studied the activity of Cyclocarya mongolicum to inhibit cyclooxygenase. Cyclooxygenase is an enzyme that converts arachidonic acid into prostaglandins, which are proinflammatory factors. Compared with the control group (using the current cyclooxygenase inhibitor, indole), it was able to achieve the inhibition of cyclooxygenase. It is trustworthy that Glycyrrhizin reduces inflammation by inhibiting the production of arachidonic acid by inhibiting cyclooxygenase.
Glycyrrhiza glabra Application:
Anti-oxidize effect
Glycyrrhiza glabra has an antioxidant effect, but also whitens (inhibits the formation of melanin) and anti-inflammatory. It has been reported in the literature that licorice can be used to reduce corticosteroids in infectious skin diseases and strengthen the role of steroids.
Cosmetic application
Glycyrrhizin has excellent anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-melanogenic effects, so it is used as a component in various cosmetics and medical care products (such as creams, lotions, shower gels, etc.). It can be made into a whitening cream, and now there are already such patented products available.
